Welcome to RV WITH CHILDREN!
There are lots of sites that focus on RVing as a whole, but we couldn't find anything that specifically address the unique challenges of RVing with children. We are full-time RVers with 5 children, so we bring a huge amount of experience to this subject. We would like to share what we enjoy and some of the products available to have the best experience in your RV with your children.
Camp Club USA is a great deal. Lots of good campgrounds to choose from. We live fulltime in our RV and having a bunch of nights half off makes a big difference to our budget!
Camping and childhood memories….I love to tell my kids of all the fun things I did when I was young on our camping trips. My family was not real outdoors kind of people, but my dad and brother loved to fish and we camped at least two or three times a summer. As a mom now, my first thought always goes to planning food. As a child I remember frying up something with potatoes and eggs on an old black skillet most mornings after my dad had made an early morning fire. I don’t remember lunches, probably because it did not involve a campfire. Dinners were always pretty basic: beans and hotdogs or hamburgers. But after dinner that was the best part! Usually we had s’mores every night. Some friends of ours introduced us to slugs. Those were pretty popular when we got tired of marshmallows. Most people I talk to don’t know what slugs are, so let me be the first to tell you. Use either a clean stick or a doweling from home. It should be about as thick as your finger. Either make up some batter (the recipe is in the “Cooking on a Stick” book distributed by Woodall’s) or premade biscuits from the refrigerator section at the grocery store. I think the large biscuits work the best. Next wrap your biscuit around the tip of your stick to cover, it should look like a test tube (that’s the only example I can think of). Then place it over the fire to cook through, hopefully with no gooey parts when you are done. Now the best part, take it off the stick, carefully, it will be hot. Then add whatever you love. We would add butter and jam or peanut butter and jam. But I think you could think of some other great things to add. Lots of fun and yummy too. Now, as a mother of five young children, we are making a lot of new memories. My husband and I have lots of time to share our childhood with our children and as we travel around the country we will have lots of stories to talk about for years to come.Take some time to plan a camping trip! You don’t need an RV. Bring your tent or borrow one. We have even found lots of places that rent cabins, trailers or even a yurt! Just don’t forget the food and try something new.
